As the May 28 day for the Warri Peace Marathon draws nearer, former Federal Commissioner for Information, Chief Edwin Kiagbodo Clark has signed on to the race.

Clark, a lawyer, administrator, Ijaw national leader, a nationalist, a freedom fighter and leader, South-South Peoples Assembly, submitted yesterday that the race would promote peaceful coexistence, which is more needed in the Niger Delta region.

The preparations for the 10km race have reached its crucial stages with only six days to go. Clark said in a letter to the organizers that the ideas of the event, first of its kind in the Warri area, is novel and he is completely in support of it.

“I wish to place on record that Peace is a commodity which is presently in short supply in our beloved Niger Delta Region of Nigeria in general and Warri-Effurun cities of our Delta State in particular.

“Therefore, the hosting of the Maiden and Novel Warri Peace Marathon is a very welcome development in the pursuit of peaceful coexistence amongst our people,” he stated.

He also commended the Delta State governor Ifeanyi Okowa and the President of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria Chief Solomon Ogba for endorsing the event.

Meanwhile over 500 athletes and keep fit enthusiasts have registered for the race, which will start at Airport Road and terminate at the Warri Township Stadium next Saturday.
