Former Stationery Stores FC of Lagos defender, Ebitimi Collins, yesterday slumped and died in front of his home in Surulere, Lagos.

Ebitimi’s associates said the former central defender, who was known for his no-nonsense approach to the game, recently complained of dizziness, but showed no sign of anything serious.

Born and raised in the Ajegunle area of Lagos, Ebitimi did not believe that football was an object to be caressed and played to entertain the fans.

He gave no space for mesmerizing dribbles and fancy foot works and ensured that no attacker messed up around him.

His job description, according to his style, was to stop his opponent by all means possible, including foul means. But he was quite effective.

Loved and adored by Stationery Stores supporters, Barbwire was in the team that won the Nigerian league in 1992 and got to the semifinals of the 1993 African Cup, of Champions Clubs (now CAF Champions League).
