Fulham manager Marco Silva believes that Alex Iwobi is going to be an important player for the club, while he also praised the Nigerian for his quality, dynamism and energy.

Iwobi had his first start for Fulham on Wednesday and made a very good use of the opportunity by scoring to help them beat Norwich City 2-1 and reach the EFL Cup fourth round.

The Super Eagles winger marked his first start with an assist and a goal, an output that comes as no surprise to his head coach, who had also managed him at Everton.

“As you know, he’s a player that I know really well,” Silva said. “I was responsible for him signing for Everton as well.

“A player that I know what he can do for ourselves in many different positions on the pitch. He has quality, he’s dynamic, and his energy, as well, means he’s going to be another important player for us.”

Iwobi found the back of the net in the 72nd minute of the encounter with a beautiful finish from the edge of the area, firing low and hard into the bottom-left corner past keeper George Long.

In addition to marking his full debut with an assist and a goal, Iwobi has also been named Man of the Match from Fulham’s 2-1 win over Norwich City in the third round of the EFL Cup.

47.5% of supporters opted for Iwobi as their standout performer. Fodé Ballo-Touré impressed on his first appearance at left-back, duly coming in second with 13.7%, ahead of Marek Rodák who claimed 11.9%.
