Mikel back in contention for Wednesday’s match
Super Eagles captain, John Mikel Obi, who was earlier ruled out of the rest of the competition following an injury he copped in Nigeria’s 0-2 loss to Madagascar last week, is back in contention may be ready for Wednesday’s match against South Africa.
Mikel missed Saturday’s 2-0 defeat of Cameroun in Alexandria, but he returned to training yesterday.
The former Chelsea star was part of the Eagles’ light training during the recovery session at their Helnan Palestine Hotel camp.
If the doctors certify him fit for what is expected to be a pulsating battle on Wednesday, Nigerians may see him in action earlier than they expected.
The Super Eagles will face South Africa in the quarterfinals of the on-going African Cup of Nations on Wednesday at the Cairo International Stadium.
The match will start by 8.00 p.m. Nigerian time.
