The National Sports Commission (NSC), yesterday, announced a 13-man Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the first West African Para Games (Zones A and B), scheduled to hold in Abeokuta, Ogun State, from November 26 to December 4, 2025.
While announcing the committee, the NSC said that the games is in line with the mandate of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to make Nigeria a preferred destination for staging international sporting competitions, as enshrined in the Renewed Hope Initiative for Nigeria’s Sports Economy (RHINSE).
The committee, chosen by the NSC, in collaboration with the Paralympic Committee of Nigeria (PCN), is chaired by Achakpo Victor. It is tasked with ensuring the successful hosting of the competition.
The NSC Director General, Bukola Olopade, said the commission is committed to continuously raising the organisational standards of every competition that it hosts, expressing optimism that this event will be another huge success story.
“We have had commendable successes with some of the international events that Nigeria has hosted this year, including the CAA U-18/U-20 Athletics Championship in Abeokuta, the National Sports Festival, and some other international competitions, and this one will not be an exception.
“We are working closely with the Paralympic Committee of Nigeria, whose President, Sunday Odebode, played a huge role in Nigeria hosting this competition, and we are very optimistic that all the para-athletes across the West African region coming for this tournament will enjoy their stay in Abeokuta and Nigeria at large,” the DG emphasised.
Other members of the Local Organising Committee include Babatunde Adeluola, Adesiyan Abimbola, Musa Mustapha, Fayigbe Olubusiyi, and Kelechi Onwudiwe.
Michael Obasi, Deji Aladegbemi, Muhammed Amin Mahmud, Joy Mayaki, Henrietta Ehiobor, and Hauwa Sulaibu are also in the committee, which has Suleiman Isah as its secretary.
