Off they go… Nigerian best lady golfers gather in Ikeja to vie for honours
It is one of such events that anybody that is somebody in Nigerian golf, whether man or woman, will not want to miss. Reason: All the best lady golfers will be there to show why women are always the quickest to embrace new things… that is, positive things.
The field was supposed to accommodate 200 players, but the lady golfers chose to restrict it to 150 to ensure that only the best are on board to contest for honours.
According to the organisers, yesterday was used to welcome the players to the Ikeja Golf Club, which has been tuned in the best possible hue in line with its status as one of the best clubs in the land.
“The players from the North, South East and South South have already arrived for the event, which will tee off tomorrow (today.)
“We had a cocktail for them today to help them get used to the surroundings and bond together,” Youth Development Officer of the Nigerian Golf Federation, Emy Ekong, told The Guardian yesterday.
Among the LGAN champions expected at the event are Amina Wilfred of IBB Club, Abuja, who won Northern Zone Championship recently at the GEJ Golf Club, Air Force Base, Abuja and the Enugu Ladies Open, as well as Rachael Danjuma of Jaji Club, who was champion at the Port Harcourt Open.
Others include Evelyn Oyome, South West number one; Faith Baya, South South champion and Diana Okah, among others.
LGAN President, Zulu Omo-Ikerodah, had earlier assured that everything had been put in place are to ensure a hitch-free event, which will also have past presidents and lady captains in attendance.
“This is a national Open and much is expected from us, because we are expecting guests from across the federation. This means all logistics must be in place to ensure the guest are comfortable while the Open lasts,” the President said.
She assured that “Participants at the end of the day would be happy being part of the championship. There are good trophies to win and enough for their welfare.”
The competition is flying on the wings of a great combination of sponsors, including Guinness, Cressida, ICMA, Light Label, Dangote, House J, Golf View Hotels, Samsung West Africa and Emirate Airlines, among others.
The president said the event would be wrapped up with raffle draws, which would see winners getting return tickets from Emirate Airlines and other impressive items.
