Naomi Oke was the star at the Lagos Open Swimming Championship for secondary schools held at the swimming pool of the National Stadium, Surulere, at the weekend.

Oke of Avital College, Aguda in Surulere, Lagos won nine gold medals in freestyle, butterfly, breaststroke in the 50 metres, 100 metres and 200 metres during the three-day championship organised by the Lagos State Swimming Association and facilitated by the State Sports Commission.

The SSS 1 student, who was adjudged the best swimmer in the senior secondary school (girls) category, promised to make Lagos proud in the national championships and eventually represent the nation at the Olympic Games someday.

“I’m so glad competing in this championship because it afforded me to test strength among other swimmers and more importantly I made new friends,” Oke said.

Other award winners included Simeon Ore of Ipakodo Grammar School, Ikorodu, who won the junior secondary school girls’ category, while Mogbojuri Adedoyin of Ajegunle Senior High School, Ajegunle, Ikorodu won the senior secondary school boys category, as Chibubem Obata of St. Judes Private School, FESTAC, Lagos emerged winner in the junior secondary school boys category.
