Rivers United secures 2-0 victory over Rayon Sports
Rivers United Football Club, yesterday, at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium in Port Harcourt secured a 2-0 victory against visiting Rayon Sports of Rwanda in the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup play-off.
The match saw the runners up of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) go into the second leg in Rwanda with a two-goal lead advantage.
A goal scored by Emeka Atuloma in the 29th minute of the first half through an assist from Esosa Igbinoba, gave the Pride of Rivers an early lead.
Ivoirien striker, Guy Kuemian, sent the home crowd into wide jubilation with his strike in the 51st minute of the second half to put the host into a comfortable lead.
Efforts by Rivers United team to put the match beyond the visitors by scoring more goals were thwarted, as the Rwandans put up a stiff resistance.
The Rayon Sports team too pushed for a goal, which never came their way, as the Coach Stanley Egume-led team frustrated them.
The second leg of the play-off is, however, scheduled to hold next week April 22 at the Stade Regional Nyamirambo in Kigali, Rwanda.
