• Tasks govt on Rotary ideals

The President, Rotary Club of Victoria Island East, Olajuwon Amodu has presented a cheque of N400, 000.00 to 14 indigent students of Georgefield Academy whose parents lack the wherewithal to sponsor them.

The event took place in Eko Hotel and Suites where the club welcomed the District Governor, Rotary International, District 9110, comprising Lagos and Ogun States, IfeyinwaEjezie who paid official visit to the Club.
Amodu, who said one of his major projects is empowering women in Oniru Community with projects that would gulp about N5m, also declared his personal project of sponsoring five students of Kuramo College in the next three years to any level of education of their dream.

“Within six months of the commencement of this Rotary year, precisely July 1, 2023, we were able to give over 500 packs of food to members of the community in Oniru beach, supported a health centre with polio vaccination, increase the club’s membership to 55, made our club an inclusive one with every member gladly participating in our activities and attending meetings.”
He added that the club gave hundreds of copies of past questions to Intaract club school students of SS2 and SS3, made donation to Rotary Foundation by about 90 per cent club members with about five members whopledged to pay $1000 each while an anonymous member had committed himself to be a major donour of ten thousand dollars.

“We have contributed to the District Educational and Welfare Endowment and sponsoring not less than 48 youths to attend Rotary Youth Leadership Award (Ryla) among others.”

Amodu also made known his mental health project, targeting about 1,000 beneficiaries with focus on widows, while he intends to be giving award of N150, 000.00 to the best Rotarian of the year in the next three years through Olajuwon Amodu’s Foundation.

Ejezie appreciated all the club has been doing and advise the members not to relent and target becoming a mega club.
He called on the people in government to imbibe the ideals of Rotary and also partner with the club for good governance.
