Is like the sun shining on a cloudless dawn, the sun that makes the grass sparkle after rain.” Good news translation2 Samuel 23:4(GNB)
To really understand this scripture, we must read verse 3, which points to the fact that we must look to the characters of the author of the chapter, which is King David. David was a man of grace and a shining light. We cannot talk about light without looking into and studying the life of some characters in the Bible. A close look at verse 3 speaks about dominion, royalty and rulership. It takes a level of dominion to be so visible and to be a light.

As believers, we are royal priesthood and a shining light. To be a light is to manifest, to appear, to be visible and seen. If you have seen the morning light, you will understand manifestation.

We are first a priest, then a king. We carry royalty after the order of Melchizedech, a priest and a King (David was a King and a priest, Jesus, the king of kings).

We have a mandate to rule, to rule well and to give justice (Isaiah 11:3, John 8:15-16). As Kings and priests, we have the dominion mandate to administer justice and fairness in the fear of God. The manifestation of our dominion makes us a LIGHT of the world. And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also. Genesis 1:16

God created two lights to rule the day and night. We as children of God are born as great lights; we are to rule both in the day and in the night. I do not want to go into the definition of light in the day or night, because by our rebirth, we have dominion both in the day and night; we rule (Psalm 91:5-6). In his days, David was a light, which was why his men, at a time, prevented him from going to war with them, so that he as their light will not be put out. They see him as the light of Israel.

But Abishai, the son of Zeruiah succoured him, and smote the Philistine, and killed him. Then the men of David sware unto him, saying, Thou shalt go no more out with us to battle, that thou quench not the light of Israel. 2 Samuel 21:17

Light is an antidote for darkness; it drives darkness away. Light does not mean absence of darkness. It means to shine in the midst of darkness and to manifest. It also means you have overcome and energised to achieve your goals and dreams unhindered by any circumstances. No darkness has prevented the manifestation of the star, moon or sun. They come out without permission from darkness and display the glory and beauty of God. So are we on this earth. We are to manifest and display His glory.
