Jesus Christ also said of Himself: “I am the true vine, my father is the husbandman” (John 15:1)

The Israelites were a people called out from among many, making them a chosen generation, but we are blessed to be partakers of these blessings of Abraham by faith in Jesus Christ.

The uniqueness and importance of the vine is seen in that it is used on several occasions to describe these people called out from among many (The Israelites).

The wine, which is a by-product of the processing of grape vine fruits symbolises cheerfulness (Psalms 104:15, Psalms 60:3, Ecclesiastes 10:19, Zechariah 9:17)

The Bible says wine makes the heart merry. When the heart is made merry, sorrow and pain are forgotten.

The wine was on several occasions used as a drink offering to God by prophets of old. (Numbers 15:10, Nehemiah 10:39, Leviticus 23:13). Wine was offered unto the Lord for a sweet savour. The vine in its fullness brings about cheerfulness, both to God and man.

These, the vine could not relinquish to occupy a seat that was not designed for him.

The Bramble
The Bible declared, “For every tree is known by its own fruit. For of thorns men do not gather figs nor of bramble bush gather they grapes,” (Luke 6:44).

It is certain that no fountain can yield both fresh and salt water at the same time, just as a good man brings forth out of the good treasure of his heart, an evil man brings forth out of the evil in his heart. A tree is known by its fruits; the purpose of a man distinguishes him.

Then said all the trees unto the bramble, come thou, and reign over us.

And the bramble said unto the tree, if in truth ye anoint me king over you, then come out of the bramble, and devour the cedars of Lebanon. Judges 9:14-15.

The bramble understands its make-up and in effect, was able to answer the call to be made king over trees.

The bramble is a prickly shrub of the rose family. It produces flowers and fruits. The fruits of the bramble are consumed by a variety of animals, and the thicket of bramble can provide valuable habitat for some small birds and animals. The bramble has also been proven to serve protective roles. The presence of bramble in bushes protects young trees from certain herbivores, although certain specie also serves important roles for other young trees.

But interestingly, the bramble doesn’t just serve protective roles and provide fruits, due to its thorny nature; the bramble is also a harmful plant. While it may serve to protect young trees as they grow, it begins to pierce them and compete with them for survival. The bramble’s thorns make it unpalatable to several species of mammals.

No wonder the bramble responded in the manner it did.

And the bramble said unto the trees, if in truth ye anoint me king over you, then come and out your trust in my shadow: and if not, let fire come out of the bramble, and devour the cedars of Lebanon (Judges 9:15)

Every interaction with the bramble that looks beneficial has an allied negative effect. Even with this, the bramble displayed and manifested according to its divine mandate.
