That you may finish with joy

Israel Kristilere

Text: Acts 20:24

To Apostle Paul, the goal and the focus of his ministry was to finish the race with joy. (Acts 20:28). This became a purpose he pursued vigorously till he died. Today, each of us has a race marked for us by God, and our goal should not just be to finish, but to finish with joy. May we also finish with Joy. I may not know what race, journey or assignment you have currently or ahead of you, but I declare by the mercies of God that you shall finish with joy. There are just two things the Lord wants me to impress on your mind through this message namely:

• Why you must finish with joy.
• How to finish with joy

Why You Must Finish With Joy
• It is the will of God for you.
• It is the only way to make your family and friends happy.
• It is a great way to disappoint your enemies.
• It is the only way to truly finish, be at peace and receive the reward.

How To Finish With Joy

• Be Faithful

If you are going to finish with joy, faithfulness is non-negotiable. You must resolve to start the journey with faith, full of faith and let faith direct your course. Finishing your race with joy will not happen by accident; you need to incident it. It will not happen by chance, it must be your choice. It will not happen by luck, it shall be by hard work. And that hard work is what I call faithfulness. I have never seen a student that graduated with first class by accident. It is by determination. The Bible says in Hebrews 11:6, “and without faith, it is impossible to please God.” I say to you today, “without faithfulness, it is impossible for you to finish your race with joy.” So be faithful.

• Be Careful

For you to finish your race with joy, you need to be careful, watchful and obedient to the rules and regulations of your race. You must be careful enough to follow the rules of the race. (1 Cor. 9: 2
4-27). This actually calls for discipline, sacrifice and steadfastness. It is impossible for a careless runner to finish the race with joy.

• Be Prayerful

The need to trust God in prayer for strength and direction cannot be over-emphasised. There is no doubt that there are many opposing forces that do not mind whether we started the race rightly or wrongly, as long as we do not finish with joy. Ephesians 6:12 makes it clear that we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against powers and principalities that would not want us to finish our race with joy. Therefore, having taken all cautions, we are enjoined in Ephesians 6:18 to pray always with all manners of prayers and supplications. If you shall finish your race with joy, you need to be prayerful.

God wants you to finish your race with joy. You must cooperate with Him, so you can finish with joy. The whole world is not perturbed by how you have started, but how you shall finish. Those who are watching your race are in two categories: namely friends and foes. May you fulfil the desires of your family and friends, as you disappoint the wicked expectations of your foes. You shall finish with joy. Amen. Shalom.
