We have talked about several reasons relationships fail and today, we want to look at lies and deceptions as one of the reasons many relationships are failing today. Genuine and true relationships only thrive and flourish on the platform of truth. We need the foundation of truth to sustain our relationships from friendship to dating, to courtship and to marriage. Every relationship needs to stand on the truth for it to work. Deceptions and lies can make any relationship to collapse like a pack of cards.

When we talk of lies and deceptions, we are talking about unwillingness to say the truth, inability to say things the way they are or deliberate efforts to mislead or misinform others. It can also mean being hypocritical, insincere and fraudulent. Just like the Bible says in Psalms 10 verse 7 thus: “His mouth is full of cursing and deceit and fraud: Under his tongue is mischief and vanity.” Without any gainsaying, lies and deceptions are satanic and ungodly. It is a deliberate attempt by people to keep others in darkness. It is a deliberate effort not to make proper disclosures and declarations.

No one truly loves a deceptive person or a liar. Although we have a lot of people today who do not see anything wrong in telling lies, but they themselves do not appreciate it when others lie to them or deceive them. It is germaine to say at this juncture that regardless of people’s opinions, we need to say categorically that God frowns at lies and deceptions and so do the righteous and every God-fearing person. Psalms 24 verse 3 and 4 says, “Who shall ascend into the hill of the Lord? Or who shall stand in his holy place? He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully.”

Today, it is very pathetic and unfortunate to note that many relationships, friendships, courtship and even marriages are founded on lies and deceptions. I have heard of cases of people who already had children as singles, but they got married to someone else without disclosing this all-important information to their fiance or fiancee. That is deception. Some even deliberately introduced such children to their spouse as their younger ones. How about cases of ladies, who got pregnant from a particular person but refused to disclose it; rather, she forced that on another man that she actually intended to marry? That is why there are myriads of agitation today on the issue of DNA or paternity test.

I heard the case of a lady who newly got wedded to a man and she decided to employ a housemaid and a houseboy. The two of them were her children, but she refused to disclose this to her husband. How do you think such a marriage will work? The most interesting thing about this subject is the fact that lies and deceptions have a short life span. No one can hide a lie forever. Whether we like it or not, the truth must be revealed whether now or later.
