A 23-year-old boy simply identified as Samson has reportedly stabbed his mother to death in Obiaruku, Delta State.

The boy was said to have murdered his mother on Wednesday morning after she allegedly challenged him for smoking Indian hemp.

The Guardian learnt that the boy had been in Asaba, the state capital, learning a trade but was brought to Obiaruku, some months ago, after developing a drug-induced mental problem.

According to sources, his mother took him to a traditional healing home where mentally-challenged patients were being treated.

The sources added that the deceased was stunned when she saw Samson still smoking, against advice. She therefore shouted at him. Provoked, the young man ran into the the house and fetched a knife with which he stabbed the mother to death.

Spokesperson for Delta State Police, SP Bright Edafe, who confirmed the incident yesterday, said the suspect had been arrested.
