Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has ordered immediate disbursement of bursary stipends to about 3,800 students who are indigenes of the state in various tertiary institutions.

The governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, in a statement, yesterday, said that the government had earlier collated students’ data across the tertiary institutions using the records from students’ stakeholders.

“The stipend covers about 3,500 regular students and almost 300 law students.

“Each of the 30 local councils and area offices has at least 100 students on the award list.

“The first phase is to reach beneficiaries from this week as the state ramps up efforts to cushion the effect of study challenges facing Osun students in various institutions,” the statement added.

Adeleke said the award is the beginning of the many initiatives his administration has in stock for the student sector.

According to him, his recent meetings with the students’ leadership had further deepened the bond between his administration and the student population, assuring that more goodies are in the pipeline.

Also, the state government said it had started receiving the expected 43 trucks of food palliatives of garri and corn from the Federal Government as part of efforts to cushion the effects of hardship currently being experienced by Nigerians across the country.

A statement, yesterday, by the state’s Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, stated: “Out of the total of 43 trucks being expected, four are garri of 25kg with each of the trucks containing 1,260 bags and another 39 trucks of 50kg bag of corn, containing 600 bags each.

“It is to be noted that the Osun State Government is being charged N67.4 million by the Federal Government as haulage fee out of which the state government has paid N45 million, leaving it with a balance of N22.4 million to offset before the delivery of the remaining consignments would be effected.

“This current food palliatives, which consist of garri and corn, originated from the office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) and being distributed by National Emergency Management Agency Office (NEMA), Abuja, and it’s being received by Osun State Government through the office of the Osun State Emergency Management Agency (OSEMA).
