Commandant of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Bauchi State Command, Ilelaboye Oyejide, yesterday, warned personnel of the agency against improper use of firearms before and during the planned nationwide protests.

He gave the warning while addressing officers from different formations of the corps in Bauchi.

Oyejide also rolled out the Standard Operating Procedures (SoPs) for officers and men deployed for operations.

The commandant urged the personnel to be diligent in their duty and professional in arms handling during the protests.

“We will not condone any trigger-happy personnel. We frown on any intimidation and harassment of members of the public.

“While being civil in the discharge of your duty, also be firm against criminally-minded people,” he cautioned.

Also, the Commandant-General, Dr. Ahmed Audi has cautioned proponents of the planned protest to consider national interest, noting that a demonstration at this time might lead to harsh repercussions.

He made the appeal at a meeting with commandants in Abuja to review strategies and security measures as part of the agency’s preparedness.

Audi, who said while Nigerians have the right to protest, he advised that it must be done in consideration of prevailing situation and in the interest of national good.
