Famous rapper Nelly, known for hit songs like Country Grammar and Hot In Herre, was arrested early Wednesday morning at the Hollywood Casino in Maryland Heights, Missouri. The arrest was made by the Missouri State Highway Patrol on a previous traffic charge and allegations of possession of ecstasy pills.

According to the arrest report, Nelly, whose real name is Cornell Haynes Jr., was taken into custody around 4:45 a.m. The initial contact with the authorities occurred during an “identification verification in accordance with the Missouri Gaming Commission regulations.” Furthermore, it came after Nelly had won several jackpots at the casino, where he is a frequent visitor and performer.

Discovery of Nelly’s insurance

During the verification process, the officer discovered a warrant for Nelly stemming from a 2018 infraction for “no proof of insurance” in Maryland Heights, Missouri. The warrant had been issued in December 2023, leading to Nelly’s arrest.

Ecstasy pills in his possession

Nelly’s attorney, Scott Rosenblum, released a statement addressing the incident. Rosenblum claims that the officer’s decision to search Nelly after the warrant led to the discovery of four pills. They were “tentatively identified” as ecstasy. Ecstasy pills are a synthetic drug that acts like a hallucinogen and stimulant.

The attorney argues that under similar circumstances, “any other citizen would address it and go on their way.”

Rosenblum also notes that Nelly, who frequently travels internationally, is regularly required to provide proof of no outstanding warrants, including FBI checks, and there were none. Additionally, the attorney expressed confidence that the case would not proceed further. And he would be requesting an inquiry into the officer’s conduct.

Finally, the Missouri State Highway Patrol has submitted formal charges for possession of a controlled substance. Also, Nelly was released shortly after his arrest and is expected to address the matter through the legal system.
