Renowned gospel singer Aduke Ajayi, popularly known as Aduke Gold, passed away on Monday due to cervical cancer, according to her brother, pastor Ajayi Aderogbo.

Cervical cancer begins in the cervix, the lower part of the uterus that connects to the vagina.

Fellow gospel artist Esther Igbekele confirmed the news of her death on Tuesday morning in an Instagram post. She wrote, “A GREAT TALENT HAS BEEN LOST. ADUKE GOLD #rip” accompanied by a photograph of the late singer.

Quelling rumours

Following her passing, rumours quickly circulated online, claiming that the singer had died during a fibroid surgery.

Pastor Ajayi, however, dismussed these speculations, clarifying that Aduke Gold succumbed to cervical cancer at the University College Hospital (UCH) in Ibadan.

“She was ill; she had cervical cancer. She was taken to UCH in Ibadan, but unfortunately, she died. We have gotten the death certificate, and whoever is spreading false information should stop.

“Our daughter was ill. She had cervical cancer, and to the Glory of God, she rested on Monday, the 12th of August,” her brother said during an interview with Gbeborun9ja on Thursday.

He urged the public to verify information before sharing it.

Aduke Gold’s passing has sent shockwaves through the Nigerian gospel music community and beyond, with many expressing their grief and disbelief, from colleagues to friends and fans.

Heartfelt comments like “Haaaaaaa is it really true? Jesus” and “What!!” reflect the profound loss felt by all who knew and loved her.
