His elder brother, Emeka Smith needs no introduction in Nigeria’s comedy turf. He came unto the scene over a decade ago and even though he currently lives overseas, his name is still being mentioned alongside comedians like Eboh Bomb, MC Shakara, Elenu and even AY, his mentor, among others.

But Ekene Smith, the younger one is here to chart his own course in the comedy industry as he disclosed recently in an interview. The graduate of Physical and Health Education from the Delta State University, Abraka, Delta State, however admitted his elder brother inspired him.  “He made me love comedy. I worked as his Personal Assistant when I completed my secondary education. I learnt the craft through him including the opportunity to mingle with other comedians. I also I hold an integral position in his media and entertainment company in Nigeria and abroad (Seagrin Media). I chose to be a comedian because it gives me the opportunity to engage people with beautiful jokes and content,” he said.   His brainchild, “Positive youth talent discovery” according to him, has achieved its aim of reaching out to raw and upcoming talents in standup comedy through the contest the platform provides, while offering entertainment to matured and friendly audience. Every edition rewards the best comedian and other contestants with cash prices.

The initiative has also not only focused on giving exposure and platform to the talented comedians but also introduced an online monthly mentorship platform
On his plans for the industry, he said: “I see myself hosting my own comedy shows in Nigeria and abroad. I also want to extend my online series “ The comic satire of a Lagos Bus Passenger” to cable channels and other bigger platforms. I want to continue to create new jokes and content that will cut across and also give back through my foundation.

“Ekene Smith Adigwu Foundation will be producing an event next year tagged “Laff Supper with Ekene Smith”. The event is aimed at empowering and celebrating the uniqueness and richness in talents. And it is scheduled to hold on Easter Monday, hopefully by God’s grace next year.”My brother is in collaboration with me towards the successful production of the event.”
