Oyo/Osun Customs command intercepts illegally imported foreign macaroni
The Oyo/Osun Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has intercepted and seized a 28-tyre trailer loaded with a substantial quantity of foreign macaroni.
The goods, it said, were seized in accordance with the ECOWAS Common External Tariff (CET) Schedule 3 (Import Prohibition List by Trade) item number 7, along the Ayegun axis of Oyo State.
The Customs Area Controller, Dr Ben Oramalugo, emphasised that the seizure underscores the Command’s unwavering commitment to curbing smuggling activities and safeguarding Nigeria’s local industries.
In his statement, he pointed out that importing goods on the prohibition list undermines local industries, negatively impacts the economy, and poses a threat to the livelihoods of Nigerians.
He also added that the seizure serves as a strong message to unscrupulous elements attempting to flout government regulations that the Command will continue to intensify its surveillance and enforcement efforts to ensure compliance with fiscal policies
Oramalugo reiterated the Command’s resolve to work diligently in collaboration with other security agencies and stakeholders to combat smuggling and protect Nigeria’s economic interests.
He also urged members of the public to support the Oyo/Osun Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service by providing credible intelligence and abiding by import and export regulations.
He added that the Oyo/Osun Area Command remains committed to its mandate of revenue generation, trade facilitation, and border security for the progress of the country.
