PWDs plead for skills acquisition training
THE Chairman of the National Association of Persons with Disabilities (NAPW), Gombe State Chapter, Alhaji Ali Goro, has pleaded with the state government to organise special skills acquisition trainings for members.
Goro, who made the call in an interview with the journalists in Gombe, said the training would assist them, particularly the less-privileged among them, who were in the streets begging.
He said: “We are appealing to Gombe State government and other non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to come out with special package for us based on our conditions as we have blinds, cripples and some with knowledge who would be able to contribute to the society.
“This will assist us and the government towards reducing the high rate of street-begging in the state and to be self-reliant.”
He stated that out of the 930 youths and women that would be trained in trades under the state government and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), only nine of their members were considered.
