Lagos govt promises cash reward for whistleblowers on traffic infractions

LASTMA launches 24-hour call centre, App

Lagos State Government, yesterday, said that residents that report traffic infractions within the state on its new whistle-blowing App would be rewarded with points that have redeemable cash reward at a later date.

Special Adviser to Lagos State Governor on Transportation, Sola Giwa, gave the promise, yesterday, during the launch of Lagos State Traffic Management Authority’s (LASTMA) toll-free call centre, walk-in-complaint centre, a website, whistleblower App and new Department of Statistics Research and Data.

Giwa, who said that the points would only be awarded after the reported infraction had been investigated to be true, implored residents not to abuse the process.

He said that the new efforts were intended to boost communication between the public and traffic management authority, simplify traffic operations, and significantly improve the overall driving experience in the state.

Giwa also stated that beyond incident reporting, the call centre will also serve as an information hub for motorists, as drivers can call in to get real-time updates on road conditions and traffic advisories.

He said that the timely information received through the centre would help motorists plan their routes more effectively, avoiding congestion and reducing travel time.
