Lagos announces total closure of Osborne to Adeniji ramp

The Lagos State Government on Thursday announced the total closure of the stretch of Osborne Foreshore Estate phase 1 to Adeniji ramp to enable the Federal Ministry of Works lay asphalt on the section.

According to a circular signed by the Lagos State Commissioner for transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the closure will commence from 12 midnight on Saturday, July 13 to 5am on Monday, July 15 July, 2024.

The government advised motorists to use the existing alternative routes, which include “Scene1: Motorists from Alexander/Glover are to make use of Oba Adeyinka Oyekan Avenue inwards Ikoyi to connect Obalende/Ring Road and access 3rd Mainland Bridge for their desired destinations.

“Scene 2: Motorists from Victoria Island are expected to go through Falomo Roundabout to link Awolowo Road and access 3rd Mainland Bridge for their desired destinations.”

Alternately, motorists from Victoria Island are advised to also utilise Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue to link Mekunwen Bridge and proceed to CMS/ Apongbon Bridge inwards Eko Bridge to access Funsho Williams Avenue for their desired destinations.

For the closure period, motorists on the other side from Sura Bridge will have seamless traffic flow inbound Osborne Foreshore Estate.

“ADVISORY: Motorists are implored to be patient as the closure is part of the traffic management plans for an improved journey experience,” the circular read.

Meanwhile , the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) said it has developed strategic plans to address the expected increase in traffic congestion in and around the project site with comprehensive traffic management measures.

The General Manager (GM) of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, in a statement on Thursday said: “From Fadeyi-Jibowu via Muritala Mohammed Way to Montgomery Road, motorists can connect to Harvey Road and then to Agnes Junction. From there, they can navigate through Sabo and Alagomeji to the Third Mainland Bridge.

“Vehicles bound for Obalende from Fadeyi to Jibowu via Muritala Mohammed Way can link to Herbert Macaulay from Alagomeji and continue their journey to Adekunle, then connect to the Third Mainland Bridge.”

As for motorists coming from Mushin en-route to Empire heading to Obalende, Bakare-Oki advised them to follow the same route to connect to UNILAG or Obalende.

Regarding traffic management measures, he LASTMA officials have been strategically positioned at various choke points to manage the situation and address any incidents or emergencies.

He stated that LASTMA personnel have also been mobilized to provide real-time traffic updates and emergency information via the agency’s social media handles.

The LASTMA GM said that recovery vehicles have been strategically placed to respond to any incidents in real-time.

Robust collaboration with other law enforcement and security agencies is also in place to manage traffic and handle unforeseen circumstances.

“We apologize for any inconvenience caused by this closure, which is part of our efforts to ensure a serene and weather-resilient atmosphere in Lagos,” Bakare-Oki said.
