The Nigeria Police have called for an investigation into a viral video depicting a police officer strangling an Uber driver while the car was in motion on the expressway.

An individual identified only as Omolomo shared the video showing a police officer gripping the driver’s neck while a woman in the car pleaded for help.

The individual captioned it, “In case you see this, you only have one duty: tag #Princemoye1 #PoliceNG and #PoliceNG_CRU. Let them see how an officer of the law is strangling a driver in motion.”

Reacting to the video, Police spokesperson Olumuyiwa Adejobi wrote on his social media handle, “Where is this happening? Can we have more information about it? Thanks. #PoliceNG, #PoliceNG_CRU, please take up this investigation. Thanks.”

This is the latest incident involving a police officer assaulting an individual.

Recently, the Anambra command said it has commenced disciplinary proceedings against a police officer who assaulted a motorist in the state.

On Monday, a viral video of the officer assaulting a commercial tricyclist was all over social media. The officer was caught in the video slapping and hitting the victim with his gun.

In a statement on Tuesday, Tochukwu Ikenga, the police spokesperson in Anambra, condemned the act, describing it as “unprofessional.”

In April 2023, the Nigerian Police Force deranked one officer and reprimanded another for assaulting a civilian in Rivers State. In a video clip, one of the police officers, holding his rifle, is seen hitting a man with a cane while another officer pushed a lady into a car.
