Zulum’s son denies committing murder in India

The son of Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State, Umar, has broken his silence over the allegation of murder made against him, denying the report that he committed homicide.

Umar was accused of killing a Chinese citizen in an Indian nightclub.

According to a social media report on X, the student at a university in New Delhi smashed a bottle of alcoholic drink on a Chinese national who showed interest in the same lady with him.

“See Governor Zulum’s son that committed murder in India. He is currently in detention, and the Indian government/family of the deceased is not letting this one sleep. Money in billions and diplomatic channels have been rejected. He killed a guy at a nightclub with a bottle,” the report read.

Umar has, however, denied the allegation of murder in a viral video, saying he had already left India for Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State.

“Dear esteemed Nigerians, I am Umar Babagana Umara Zulum. I am here to address damaging falsehoods that have been made against me,” he said.

“It has come to my notice, a baseless gossip accusation against me saying that I killed someone at a nightclub. This is not true. They want to tarnish my father’s name. I have been with my family for two months now, right in Maiduguri.”

The Borno State Government on Wednesday, through a statement issued by the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to Governor Zulum on New Media, Abdurrahman Bundi, had denied the allegation, calling it false.

Bundi also threatened that the government will take legal action against the publishers of the alleged defamatory news about the governor’s son.

“It has come to our attention that false and malicious rumors are circulating on social media, claiming that Umar Zulum, the son of Professor Babagana Zulum, Governor of Borno State, has been involved in a serious crime,” Bundi said.

“For clarity, Umar Zulum completed his final semester examinations and left India before Eid ul Kabir. He is currently in Maiduguri and can be visited at the government residence. Umar will return to India in early August to receive his degree certificate.”
