Crime and broadcast journalist, Cindy Onajite Atirene, popularly known as Najite, has been elected President of the TVC Women’s Network (TVCWN), the internal empowerment platform of TVC Communications. She will serve in this capacity from 2025 to 2027.
The TVC Women’s Network was established as part of TVC Communications’ drive to provide women within the organisation with a platform for professional development, mentorship, and community engagement. Over the years, the network has become a rallying point for female staff members, championing empowerment initiatives while also extending its impact into local communities through outreach programmes, mentorship opportunities, and competitions that give young women and girls a voice.
Speaking on her election, Atirene expressed gratitude for the confidence reposed in her by colleagues, while pledging to steer the network towards greater visibility and deeper impact.
“This role is not just about me. It is about using the TVC Women’s Network as a vehicle to amplify the voices of women, to empower young girls, and to touch the lives of children in ways that shape a better future for our society,” she said.
“My election underscores TVC Communications’ commitment to creating inclusive spaces for women, while also highlighting the growing recognition of female leadership in Nigeria’s media industry.”
Currently serving as Head of News at Yanga FM, a sister station under TVC Communications, Najite brings to the role a wealth of professional experience and a passion for advocacy. Over the years, she has used her platform in journalism to address critical social issues such as child protection, sexual abuse, drug abuse, teenage cultism, and gangsterism. Her campaigns and reporting have consistently shed light on the vulnerabilities of children and young people, sparking conversations that drive social change.
Colleagues describe her as a resilient journalist and a compassionate leader whose vision is deeply rooted in service. Her commitment to social justice and her track record of advocacy align closely with the mission of the TVC Women’s Network, which is to inspire, empower, and create opportunities for women both within the organization and in society at large.
Industry watchers say her emergence as president is timely, as conversations around gender equity, workplace inclusion, and youth empowerment continue to gain traction in Nigeria’s media and social landscape. Under her leadership, expectations are high that the network will expand its reach, strengthen its mentorship programmes, and deepen its social impact, particularly in areas affecting women and children.
The TVC Women’s Network has, in recent years, organised initiatives such as the Female Senior Secondary Debate Championship, which nurtures young talent, builds confidence, and offers winners access to mentorship and career opportunities within media. Najite is expected to sustain such landmark projects while introducing fresh ideas to broaden the scope of the network’s activities.
