Nigerian business leader, Ejiroghene Otuada Udu, has been named the 2025 Entrepreneur of the Year (Female Category) at the Global Entrepreneurs Awards, an international gathering held in Accra, Ghana. The event, staged from 21 to 23 November at the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel, formed part of this year’s Global Entrepreneurship Festival, which drew participants from Europe, the United Kingdom, America and several African countries.
Her recognition places a spotlight on Nigeria’s growing footprint in the temporary power solutions industry, a sector that continues to play a crucial role in bridging the country’s long-standing electricity gaps. Udu heads Premium Power Solutions Ltd. (PPS), and also oversees The Technician Academy, while serving as co-founder of Power Plus Generators Ltd. Her work in these areas has built an ecosystem focused on practical, accessible and rapid-response power interventions for businesses and communities.
The award, according to organisers, acknowledges her contribution to expanding reliable, decentralised power access. Under her leadership, PPS has deployed modular captive power installations across parts of Nigeria, supplying on-demand energy through generators and maintenance services to industries, events and public institutions. The company has also been noted for developing capacity in technical fields through its academy, which trains young Nigerians interested in power and equipment management.
In her remarks after receiving the award, Udu said the announcement came as a surprise, noting that she had been shortlisted in a different category before being named as the overall winner for female entrepreneurship. She dedicated the award to her team, describing their consistency and commitment as central to the company’s progress.
“This award came as a shock, as I was initially nominated for the Global Industry Award only to be called up for Entrepreneur of the Year,” she said. “This award is dedicated to my team. Their commitment and loyalty to excellent service have made our vision possible.”
Over the past year, PPS has widened its operational footprint beyond Nigeria, with recent expansion into São Tomé and Príncipe. The company has also strengthened its internal systems and broadened its product offerings, including the establishment of Power Plus Generators Ltd., a retail-focused venture that deals in generator sales. Plans to expand into solar and inverter solutions are currently underway, signalling a gradual diversification into renewable energy.
The Global Entrepreneurs Awards are known for celebrating individuals whose work demonstrates innovation, resilience and measurable economic impact. Udu’s recognition, analysts note, reflects the broader rise of indigenous Nigerian enterprises addressing infrastructure deficits through locally-driven solutions.
Premium Power Solutions continues to evolve alongside shifts in Nigeria’s power needs, adopting more data-led approaches to generator deployment, maintenance and service delivery. The company’s methods have attracted attention within the industry, particularly as both public and private institutions look for alternatives during periods of grid instability.
Udu’s latest honour adds to a growing list of Nigerians whose work in technical and entrepreneurial fields is gaining international acknowledgement, further reinforcing the role of homegrown enterprises in tackling regional challenges.
