The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has urged its members and supporters to disregard what it described as fake lists of newly elected ward and local government executive members currently circulating on social media.
The party leadership said the various documents in circulation, which contain different names purported to be members of the new executive committees at the ward and local government levels, were the handiwork of “mischievous elements” acting against the collective interest of stakeholders and genuine supporters of the party.
Members of the APC across the state had participated in the nationwide Ward and Local Government congresses held on February 18 and 21 respectively, where new officials were elected to manage the affairs of the party at the grassroots for the next four years.
In a statement issued at the weekend and made available to journalists in Ibadan by the State Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, the party maintained that the congresses were successfully conducted across the 351 wards and 33 local government areas of the state.
“We have been inundated with reports of some fake documents being circulated on social media platforms as the lists of the newly elected executive committee members for some wards and local government areas in the state,” the statement read.
“For the avoidance of doubt, we stand by the outcome of the congresses as successfully done across the 351 wards and 33 LGAs in the state. The consensus arrangement prescribed by the national leadership was employed and this gave us the desired results.”
The party further assured that there was no cause for alarm regarding the status of those who emerged as ward and local government executives, stressing that their inauguration would be conducted after the emergence of a new State Executive Committee.
According to the statement, the State Congress of the Oyo APC will hold on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium. The party called on members and supporters to attend the event, assuring that necessary arrangements had been put in place to ensure a successful exercise.
“This coming Tuesday, a new state exco will emerge through consensus and each of the 33 LGAs will have the opportunity to send their choice candidates as representatives,” the party added.
The APC leadership expressed confidence that the party remained united and focused despite attempts to create confusion through the circulation of unauthorised documents.
“As it stands, members and supporters of the APC in the Pacesetter State have nothing to worry about because the party is waxing stronger every day. There will be no room for distractions or sabotage from any quarters,” the statement added.
