The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Ogun State Joint Campus Council (JCC), has commended Governor Dapo Abiodun for approving key infrastructure projects, housing schemes and security initiatives, describing the measures as strategic investments that will accelerate socio-economic development and improve the welfare of students and residents across the state.

In a statement signed by its Chairman, Habeebullahi Adekunle Tijani, the student body said the approvals by the Ogun State Executive Council reflected the administration’s commitment to purposeful governance, sustainable development and youth-centred policies.

NANS particularly lauded the approval for the reconstruction of major roads across the state’s three senatorial districts, noting that improved road infrastructure would enhance access to tertiary institutions, reduce travel time, improve safety and facilitate academic, commercial and agricultural activities.

According to the association, better road networks would also stimulate economic growth, attract investments and create employment opportunities for young people and graduates.

The council also applauded the approval of a 450-unit housing scheme and other residential projects, describing them as critical investments that would expand access to affordable housing, generate jobs in the construction sector and strengthen the state’s economy.

It also commended the reconstruction of the Ogun State House of Assembly Quarters and the Governor’s Lodge, saying the projects would enhance institutional efficiency, preserve public assets and strengthen governance.

On security, NANS lauded Governor Abiodun for deepening collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force, particularly the deployment of an operational police aircraft to the state, while also appreciating the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, for approving the initiative.

The association said enhanced aerial surveillance, intelligence gathering and the strengthening of Operation Kosaye would improve security across forests, border communities and other vulnerable areas, creating a safer environment for learning, research, entrepreneurship and investment.

It also commended the government’s continued support for traditional institutions through the recognition and upgrading of deserving chieftaincies, describing traditional rulers as key partners in grassroots governance, conflict resolution and community security.

According to the student body, the combination of improved infrastructure, enhanced security, affordable housing and institutional reforms has continued to position Ogun State as a leading destination for education, industrialisation, entrepreneurship and youth development.

While applauding the administration’s achievements, the council urged the state government to sustain investment in education by improving learning infrastructure across tertiary institutions, expanding student-focused empowerment programmes, creating internship and innovation opportunities for undergraduates and graduates, and strengthening partnerships that would prepare students for global competitiveness.
