Misau beats Bauchi LGA, wins Nigerian Unity Cup
MISAU Local Government Area on Saturday emerged winners of the Nigerian Unity Cup in Bauchi State. Misau defeated Bauchi LGA 5-3 on penalties in an explosive final played at the Abubakar Balewa Stadium, Bauchi.
Earlier in the third-place match, Gamawa LGA defeated Ningi LGA 2-0. Twenty LGAs participated in the competition meant for U-19 players.
The National Project Director of the competition, Comrade Moses Ebahor, hailed the state co-ordinator of the tournament, Alhaji Aliyu Ibrahim, for making the event a success.
Ebahor said the tournament was meant to promote peace and unity among youths in the 774 local government areas in Nigeria through football.
Ibrahim said they have discovered young and talented players that can represent Nigeria internationally through the competition.
He called on corporate organisations and individuals to support the tournament, which he said, would help reduce restiveness among Nigerian youths.
“Football is a veritable tool to preach peace among Nigerians,” Ibrahim said.
Top politicians, sports personalities and traditional rulers graced the final ceremony of the event.
