Ortom urges NJC to review judges’ salaries
Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom has asked the National Judicial Council (NJC) to review upward salaries of judges to enhance their performance.
He made the appeal during the swearing-in of two High Court Judges yesterday at Government House, Makurdi.
“Judges, by the nature of their duties, are a special breed, who deserve good working conditions to shield them from the temptations of being compromised.
“Their welfare and wellbeing ought to be of utmost concern. It is in view of this fact that I appeal to the NJC to review the salaries of judges that have been static for over a decade,” he said.
He also suggested that since the NJC started central control, discipline and payment of salaries and allowances, it was logical for the council to also handle pensions of retired state judges.
