The Group Managing Director of Access Bank Plc, Dr Herbert Wigwe and Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Total Plc, Nicolas Terraz have emerged as the new co-chair of Nigerian Business Coalition against AIDS (NiBUCCA).
The duo, which took over from Dr Pascal Dozie, who had been co-chair from 2003 was inaugurated over the weekend in Lagos. Dozie, who handled the inauguration, hailed former President Olusegun Obasanjo for singlehandedly mooting the idea of NIBUCCA and drafting him as well as others to nurture it.
He pointed out that NIBUCCA has done well in prevention and reduction of HIV/AIDS across the nation with innovative projects and schemes. He expressed delight that the organisation was being handed over to younger, energetic and well-groomed individuals.
Wigwe said he was humbled by the opportunity to serve and contribute to the HIV/AIDS campaign.
He vowed to stop at nothing to take NIBUCCA to greater heights with the entire team.
Terraz also stated he will give the project all his expertise and attention, saying the HIV/AIDS battle was one that must be won at all costs.
NiBUCAA is a Business Membership Organization (BMO) established on February 15, 2003, as the voice of the private sector response to HIV and AIDS in Nigeria. It was set up to position the private sector in capitalizing on their unique strengths and proficiencies to HIV programme areas and mitigate the impact of HIV and AIDS in the workplace and society in general. NiBUCAA was put together on the premise that businesses have collective leadership roles to play in the multi-sectoral response to HIV and AIDS, led by the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA).
The Coalition believes the workplace represents a very good assistance and a platform where information on prevention, care and support programmes can be disseminated.
