Awodiya set to launch book on persuasion April 3

The Publisher/ Executive Editor, Nigeria University Times, Prof. Daniel Awodiya, has announced plans to unveil his latest textbook on persuasion.The event, scheduled to hold on April 3, 2025, at the Biodun Sobanjo Multimedia Centre of Excellence, Department of Mass Communication, University of Lagos, at 12:00pm, will mark the unveiling of the classic textbook, titled, ‘Persuasion: Concepts, Principles, & Theories of the Art and Science of Social influence –From Rhetoric to Social Media’.
The book launch, which will be chaired by the former Head of Department of Mass Communication UNILAG and council member World Journalism Education Congress (WJEC), Prof. Ralph Akinfeleye, will bring together distinguished scholars and media practitioners, including government officials and business leaders.
The event, sponsored by the Chairman Troyka Holdings, Biodun Shobanjo, will be hosted by the Vice Chancellor, University of Lagos, Prof. Folasade Ogunsola.
Published by the Academic Publishing Centre, South West Zone, University of Lagos, the 258-page classic textbook, details the development of the subject of persuasion from the ancient times of artistic Rhetorical studies to the present-day scientific analytics and algorithm – induced measures of Social Media influence. The book is highly recommended for use by students and practitioners of mass communication, advertising, public relations, marketing, political campaigns health campaigns, citizen orientation, social development, extension work, etc.
Professor Awodiya is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Springboard Communications, an International
PR and Publishing Consult based in Delaware, USA.
He recently published books on customer relations, principles of public speaking, and effective employee and management communication. Awodiya is the author of the widely acclaimed textbook on human communication currently being used in colleges and universities in the U.S.
As a full Professor of Communication, he has been teaching various courses in Strategic Business Communication, Public Speaking, Persuasive Strategies and Intercultural Relations, Listening, Small Group, Mass Media, Public Relations and Advertising, Research Methodology, and other academic courses at various Colleges and Universities in the United States and Nigeria for the past thirty-two years. For eight years, he was the head of the Communication unit of The College of New Rochelle’s School of New Resources in New York.
He started his professional development training career in 1988, when he presented a workshop on “Communication in the Organisation,” and “Stress Management” to a group of senior civil servants in the District of Columbia, Washington government in the United States.
A member of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC), he has authored several scholarly articles on communication, education, public relations, advertising, marketing and sales. In addition, he has organised several workshops on Integrated Business Communication and Education in both the United States and Nigeria.
Awodiya, who obtained his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees from the University of Lagos, left Nigeria in 1985 for the United States. In 1991, he received his doctorate degree in Human Communication from Howard University in Washington D.C.
He has experience working with clients from different parts of the world. He was a political consultant to two presidential candidates, one in Asia and the other in Nigeria. In the recent past, he served as a member of an educational review committee for accreditation in a major U.S. college. In Nigeria, prior to travelling to the United States, he rose to become a Zonal Public Relations Manager in NITEL and had stints in different communication enterprises as reporter, writer, sub-editor, editor, and public relations officer.
