Produced in 2024 by Great And Mighty Things Inc. and directed by the visionary Babatunde Agunloye, the film represents a pioneering collaboration between Nigerian and Canadian talent, marking a significant milestone for both communities.

The unprecedented achievement of the film extends beyond the shores of Canada, resonating profoundly with the Nigerian diaspora community.

Through its compelling storytelling and innovative approach to filmmaking, Realm 2 serves as a beacon of representation and empowerment for Nigerians abroad, reaffirming the importance of cultural diversity and inclusion in global media.

The director, Agunloye, speaks more on the project.

Realm 2 has received widespread acclaim for its portrayal of the Nigerian diaspora experience. Can you share some key achievements and successes of the project, particularly, in resonating with Nigerians across the globe?
Realm 2’s success has been truly heartening. We’ve received overwhelming support from Nigerians worldwide, who have connected deeply with the characters and themes depicted in the film. It’s been gratifying to see how the story has resonated with audiences, sparking conversations and fostering a sense of unity within the diaspora community.

As the director of Realm 2, what were some of the challenges you faced during production, especially in ensuring authenticity and cultural accuracy, and how did you navigate these obstacles?
Authenticity was paramount for us throughout the production process. One of the main challenges was capturing the nuances of the Nigerian diaspora experience while also appealing to a broader audience. We conducted extensive research, collaborated closely with community members, and sought feedback to ensure that the portrayal was respectful and true to life.

The visionary approach of Great And Mighty Things Inc. has resulted in a groundbreaking project. How do you believe this has contributed to advancing the representation of Nigerians and Canadians in the global media landscape?
Our project has showcased the talent and diversity of Nigerian/ Canadian storytelling on a plausible platform, which Fibe TV1 represents in North America. Great And Mighty Things Inc., has, through Realm 2 amplified voices and reached an untapped audience with immigrant storytelling, reshaped stereotypes and definitely opened up more opportunities for authentic representation in the media.
Realm 2 is not only a cinematic achievement but also a cultural milestone. How do you envision this project influencing the perception of Nigerian culture and identity on a global scale?

The film offers a multifaceted portrayal of Nigerian and Canadian culture and identity, highlighting the richness and complexity of both heritage. Through the film, we aim to challenge stereotypes and misconceptions, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of Nigerian and Canadian culture among global audiences. Our hope is that Realm 2 will serve as a catalyst for more nuanced and inclusive representations of Nigerians in the media.

In light of the success of Realm 2, what do you see as the main opportunities and challenges for Nigerian filmmakers looking to tell their own stories on the global stage?
The success of Realm 2 is a testament to the appetite for diverse storytelling in the global market. Opportunities for Nigerian filmmakers are certainly expanding, but there are still challenges to overcome, including access to funding, distribution channels, and institutional support. However, with determination and resilience, Nigerian filmmakers can continue to break barriers and make their voices heard on the global stage.

Realm 2 has sparked important conversations about representation and diversity in the film industry. How do you believe this project can inspire other filmmakers to create more inclusive narratives that reflect the diversity of the Nigerian experience?
Representation matters and Realm 2 demonstrates the power of storytelling to shape perceptions and ignite change. By showcasing authentic and diverse narratives, we hope to inspire other filmmakers to explore their own unique perspectives and contribute to a more inclusive and equitable media landscape. Our goal is to create a ripple effect that leads to greater visibility and representation for all members of the Nigerian diaspora.

Looking ahead, what future projects do you hope to undertake that will further amplify the voices and stories of Nigerians and the broader African diaspora?
We have several exciting projects in the pipeline that aim to build on the success of Realm 2 and continue to elevate Nigerian voices on the global stage. From exploring untold stories within the diaspora to collaborating with emerging talent, our goal is to create meaningful and impactful projects that celebrate the richness and diversity of the Nigerian and Canadian culture, home and abroad.

What message would you like to convey to Nigerians worldwide who have supported and embraced Realm 2, and how do you believe they can continue to champion projects like this in the future?
To Nigerians worldwide, I would like to express my deepest gratitude for your unwavering support and enthusiasm for Realm 2. Your voices matter, and your support have been instrumental in bringing this project to life. Can you tell us about your working relationship with the producers at Bell Fibe TV1 and how their involvement contributed to the success of Realm 2?
Working with the producers at Bell Fibe TV1 was a collaborative and enriching experience. Their expertise and support were invaluable in bringing Realm 2 to a wider audience and ensuring its success. From the initial discussions to the final broadcast, we worked closely together to align our vision and goals for the project. Their commitment to showcasing diverse and culturally significant content played a crucial role in amplifying the voices of the Nigerian diaspora and promoting greater representation in the media. Overall, our partnership with Bell Fibe TV1 was instrumental in elevating Realm 2 to new heights and reaching audiences across Canada and beyond.

Can you tell us about yourself?
My name is Babatunde Agunloye. I am a filmmaker known for my commitment to diverse narratives. After a formal training from the Toronto Film School, I became a director and eventually a co-founder at Great And Mighty Things Inc, an audio-visual production company located in Canada and soon, Nigeria. As the director of Realm 2, I craft compelling stories that resonate globally, celebrating the Nigerian diaspora experience in Canada.

My passion for cinema merges with a purpose-driven approach, pushing boundaries and inspiring change in the industry. I have been privileged to write and direct many short films, written PSAs, directed documentaries, produced various media contents and work in different above the line capacities on many projects.
