Watchers of the gospel throughout the church ages have found its appeal irresistible. Men and women worshipped in its beauty. But many went beyond, expressing the profound inspiration it breathed on them.

Watchers of the gospel throughout the church ages have found its appeal irresistible. Men and women worshipped in its beauty. But many went beyond, expressing the profound inspiration it breathed on them. Putting pen to paper, these folks wrote of its essence, urging humanity to appreciate its magnificence and abide by its admonitions.

Following this tradition, a Warri-based gospel minister, Mogba Eyefujirin B. Benjamin, launched Appreciating the Mystery of the Gospel on September 8, 2024: an inspiring volume that challenges Christendom to transcend a superficial acknowledgement of the gospel and live out its manifold true blessings.

Spread across 10 chapters, including ‘The Gospel: What it is’, ‘Religion and the Gospel’, ‘The Christian Religious Phases and What They Represent’, ‘Fanatics of World Religions and Traditions against the Gospel’, ‘Kingdom Mysteries: Usage and Functions’, and ‘The Great Benefits of the Gospel’, Benjamin Mogba seeks to “realign people’s mind, both saved and unsaved, to cherish the Lord’s salvation and make others to also come to the knowledge of the truth.”

He fastens his optimism with the assurance, ‘Without doubt, the entire world can be realigned by the gospel of Jesus, notwithstanding any opposition from the kingdom of darkness, which is of Satan.”

Mogba explores the concept of the gospel, contrasting it with religion and highlighting its transformative power. The gospel, as presented in the Bible, is not merely a story about Jesus but a set of principles and a way of life intended to restore divinity to humanity. It is a divine culture designed to transform and unite humanity and should be embraced as a way of life rather than a mere religious doctrine. The author affirms that the gospel is distinct from religion, as it offers salvation and liberation from sin, while religion can often hinder spiritual growth.

The author delves into the gospel’s fundamentals, asserting its power against evil and its role in restoring humanity to God’s original plan. This restoration was achieved through God’s wisdom and the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. He highlights the importance of truth, humility, love, prayer, and fasting in accessing the gospel’s power and overcoming the devil’s influence. Furthermore, the author explores the nine fruits of the Spirit and stresses that these divine attributes should be evident in the lives of true Christians.

Mogba also critiques the current state of Christianity, arguing that it has lost its influence due to its alignment with worldly ways and religious corruption. He provides a detailed exposition of various Christian denominations, highlighting their flaws and deviations from the true gospel. The author calls for Christians to prioritise the teachings of Jesus Christ and embrace the gospel’s transformative power.

The author discusses the opposition faced by the gospel from various religions and traditions, asserting that many have been corrupted by Satan and are used to deceive humanity. The gospel’s universality and ability to displace and transform any tradition or culture are highlighted. He explores the mysteries and blessings of God’s kingdom, accessible to the Born Again and those living according to God’s will. The author further highlights the power of the name of Jesus, the blood of Jesus, the anointing oil, and kingdom ordinances in overcoming the works of the devil and living a fulfilled life.

Finally, Mogba underscores the importance of the church as a vital organ of the gospel. He explains that the church should belong to Christ and not be influenced by worldly factors such as greed or misconceptions of prosperity. The church’s role in keeping the saints of God together, providing training, and reflecting God’s will in society is highlighted. The author concludes by stressing the importance of the church as the glory of the Lord on earth and a channel of blessing to the world.

Readers hoping to savour fresh inspirations of Christian literature should find Mogba’s Appreciating the Mystery of the Gospel a worthy undertaking.
