C Extreme takes us on a journey through his phenomenal debut EP – Colored Echoes, so named to accurately portray the cascade of emotions each track represents. This youth-centric EP gives listeners a frame-by-frame perspective into conflicting feelings often experienced when it comes to dealing with love, friendship, pressure, living and letting go.

Extreme begins the journey with WDYSIM. A track that tells a tale of doubt, confusion and scars accrued from previous experiences with love and life, here the artist asks- What Do You See in Me? A common question we ask our tumultuous existence. Capturing our attention midway with an eccentric change in tune Extreme reflects his hopefulness “so I pray for better days ahead/when I go change your dress… ahead ahead” pandering to a longing and deep desire for a change of story.

Extreme fluidly ushers us with strings and a soulful sax into the second track Enough. This track gives us gleam into the artist’s fed-up reaction to the state of his relationship, the outburst “oh I’ve had enough, had enough of you” can be likened to cracking under the pressure and declaring enough is enough while letting go of the scars and memories, essentially embracing a blank slate for a fresh start.

Silhouette embodies the art of sensuality and playful love where we see Extreme bare his intentions for his lover with the bouncy tune, trippy intro and sultry lyrics. This track paints an image of the silhouette of a lover urging you on till you can’t help but get lost in the tango. Keeping us on our auditory toes, Extreme seduces us till the end of this track where he perhaps fulfils his quest just as he said “my mission is to make sure that I take you home with me”. Silhouette is that song that should accompany you home, the perfect background sound for a tumble session.

You depict Extreme’s fluid approach to genre fusion, as he flows with thought provoking lyrics tinged with humour and harmonizing with the funky, infectious groove of this track. He tells a story of uplifting love, motivation and happiness found in his lover, through the lyrics “I found some happiness in you, found my happiness in your love” The beats by Kxyyz, comes beautifully together blessing our ears with the guitar by promisetheguitarist, and magic bow by the violinist- governors_voilinist keeping us enthralled till the last note.

One cannot help but take it easy on the fifth track Nwayo, which asks us to- you guessed right- take it easy on him. Extreme starts the show with “What I feel is what I feel/to live my life no be beans, every small thing heavy heart attack o someone call the doctor” reflecting his melancholy towards the immense pressure bearing down on us. Nwayo paints a picture of weariness experienced in all facets of life; the pressure to succeed as a youngster, societal expectations and emotional struggles. He spins a bard, narrating his efforts, requesting for ease with the lyrics “I’m crossing seven seas to feel something/ nwere nwayo nwayo”. The track ends with the beeping of the heart monitor synchronous with a heartbeat, which stops just as the beep flat lined, signifying loss when overwhelmed.

Extreme draws the curtains to this fine piece of art, grabbing our attention with a guitar guided opener on the last track Runaway. He tells a tale of heartbreak and attaining peace with forlorn love saying “I feel good but I feel bad sometimes/but if na life be that then I won’t mind if you runaway from me”

Coloured echoes is not simply magical, as it demonstrates Extreme’s versatility through his ability to harmonize a variety of sounds and tempo into euphonious melodies; expertly threading his lyrics with uplifting beats, accented with the live sax, guitar and violin tones. In this EP, C Extreme becomes one with the music as he urges us to relax and enjoy the coloured experience.
