How OVP on digital and creative economy executes 100% funding from the private sector
In a quest to support the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda, under the leadership of the Vice President, Sen. Kashim Shettima, the Office of the Special Assistant to the President (OVP) on Digital and Creative Economy has executed the following interventions for the Creative Ecosystem with 100 per cent funding from the Private Sector.
We created the N5 Billion Creative Fund in partnership with Providus Bank to support the Creative Ecosystem. N1.5 Billion was approved for four (4) Creatives: Titi Ogufere, Williams Uchemba, Obi Omelonye, and Richard Mofe-Damijo. While three of the creatives withdrew their funds to execute their projects, Richard Mofe-Damijo deferred his payment to 2025 for another project.
We disbursed over N550 million in Grant funding to the Creative Ecosystem. Sponsored the Movie Premiere of Tiwa Savage’s “Water and Garri,” “Smart Money Women 2.” Supported the marketing of AY’s movie “The Waiter,” Prince Daniel’s movie “Mai Martaba,” and Omoni Oboli’s movie “Wives on Strike 3.” We supported the comedy shows of Alibaba, AY, Kenny Blaq, MC Monica, Chuks D General, Seyi Law, Short Family, Mr. Paul, and The Last Prophet.
We conducted stakeholder engagements with over 3000 creatives across London, Chicago, Lagos, Jigawa State (Dutse & Hadejia), Enugu State, and Cross River State.
We trained individuals in Hairstyling, Fashion & Leather Making, Financial Literacy, and Content Creation.
We launched the Grassroots Creative Business Boost to support creatives and small businesses. Every week, we provided N500,000 to two (2) small businesses. We supported Marie Performing Arts Academy with grant funding to expand their academy’s facility.
We sponsored the biggest show in Abuja, The AWG Festival by Odumodu Blvck, and supported creatives at Entertainment Week Lagos with grants. We also supported the National Design & Innovation Competition, Design Week Lagos, Miss Diaspora Nigeria USA 2024, AfroHair Culture & Beauty Festival, Made in the North Festival, Calabar Fashion Weekend, The Creative Class, and the SPAID Hairstylist training.
