Jara Beach Resort marked its 5th anniversary with a spectacular celebration this past Sunday, November 10th. Known for its pristine beachfront and warm hospitality, the resort, located along Lekki Expressway, near Eleko, has become a favourite getaway for both local and international guests. Since its opening in 2019, Jara Beach Resort has established itself as a premier destination for relaxation, culinary excellence, and sustainable tourism in Nigeria.

Upon arrival, attendees were welcomed with refreshing cocktails and appetisers prepared by the resort’s acclaimed culinary team. The resort’s founders, Millie and Mark Slade, were present to greet guests and share stories about the journey that led to Jara Beach Resort’s establishment. In a heartfelt closing speech, they expressed gratitude to their team, guests, and partners who contributed to the resort’s ongoing success.

The anniversary event saw guests treated to an indulgent BBQ lunch which showcased Jara’s commitment to using locally sourced, sustainable ingredients. The menu featured traditional Nigerian flavours and international cuisine.

Throughout the celebration, live music from DJ Venum set a vibrant mood with a mix of international tropical house and Nigerian classics and contemporary hits. Guests also enjoyed beach games, a beachwear fashion show and a local traditional dance troupe.

The event also hosted the judging for the resort’s Children’s Recycled Art Competition. Guest judges included Mr Bolaji Alonge (Photographer), Mrs Bilikiss Adebiyi-Abiola (Environmentalist, WeCyclers), Mrs Allyson – Aina Davies (Artist and DEI specialist) and Mr Frank Eggmann (Consul General of Switzerland). The competition was open to 5-12 year olds, with students from five Lagos-based schools participating – focused on the importance of protecting our oceans. Each piece truly represented creativity, sustainability, and heart. The first place winner was Ms Daniella Onuoha from Emerald School, earning her and her family an overnight experience at the resort. Second place was 6yr old Faramolu Rufai from American International school, winning a family Day Pass experience. Third place, winning art supplies, was jointly earned by Tehilla Sindama (Busybees British School) and Joshua Powell (Banana Island School). Jara Beach Resort hopes to repeat this initiative after such a successful maiden edition.

Acknowledging the milestone, Millie Slade said, “This anniversary is not just about celebrating five successful years; it’s also about reflecting on the journey, the adventure and having created a truly unique beach destination in Nigeria. We are committed to providing guests with unforgettable experiences while preserving the beauty of our natural environment and supporting the local economy. Jara Beach Resort has always been about more than just a destination—it’s a community and a vision that we are proud to share with everyone who visits.”

Jara Beach Resort’s 5th-anniversary celebration ended with a beautiful golden-hour sunset over the ocean, closing an unforgettable day. Looking ahead, the resort is excited to welcome celebrants this festive season, and continue to innovate and introduce more eco-friendly initiatives and memorable experiences that embody the heart and soul of Nigerian hospitality.
