The Kano State government has announced the relaxation of the 24-hour curfew declared against the violent protest to enable residents to observe the Friday congregation prayers.

Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr. Isa Haruna Dederi, in a press release, said the government considered a five-hour relief for residents to perform religious activities and refill their food supplies.

According to the commissioner, the concession, which takes effect between 12 noon and 5 pm, will be when movement is restricted.

Meanwhile, relative calm has returned to the city as the protesters deserted major roads where demonstrations took full swing.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf on Thursday imposed a 24-hour curfew after the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protest turned violent in the state. Yusuf disclosed the restriction became necessary to forestall further breakdown of law and order.

The governor earlier inspected various sites where the hoodlums destroyed property and condemned the dastardly act. He urged the security agencies to ensure strict surveillance and protection of life and property.

Police confirmed the destruction of public and private properties by hoodlums who took advantage of the massive crowd of protesters to invade and loot shops and warehouses.

The hijackers of the Thursday protest vandalised the multi-billion naira new Digital Park constructed by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and carted away computers, furniture, and many other valuables.

About 260 miscreants have been arrested with stolen food items and office appliances during Thursday’s violent protest.
