FG, ASUU meet over planned strike

The Federal Government is currently meeting with members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), over plans by the union to embark on indefinite strike.

The meeting is coming 10 days to the expiration of the 21-day ultimatum issued by by the university lecturers’ union to down tools over alleged government’s failure to meet its demands.

The meeting which started at 2:17pm at the Federal Ministry of Education headquarters in Abuja, witnessed an open session before it resolved into closed door session.

While the Federal Government delegation is led by the Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, ASUU President, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, led the lecturers’ Union.

In his opening remarks, Education Minister expressed determination of the Federal Government to avert the industrial action, even as Osodeke tasked the government to meet its demands to ensure industrial harmony.
