Aviation workers union has again directed all staff of aviation agencies to embark on nationwide protest from September 18th over the continued deduction of 50 percent of its Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).

The union gave the directive in a joint statement signed by the National Union of Transport Employees (NUATE), Association of Nigeria Aviation Professionals (ANAP), National Association of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers (NAAPE) Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations Technical and Recreational Services Employee (AUCPTRE) and Air Transport Services and Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN)

The union in a notice of Nationwide protest titled ‘save Aviation from collapse’ directed all workers of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) Nigeria Airspace Management Agency(NAMA), Nigeria College of Aviation Technology (NCAT) Nigeria Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) and Nigeria Meteorology Agency NIMET) to begin peaceful protest at all airports nationwide on Thursday the 18th September.

The peaceful protest is to demand the discontinuation of the deduction of 50 percent from IGR from aviation agencies through an exemption.

The union had planned to embark on a day protest on August 21, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development Festus Keyamo appealed for patience, assuring that he would work out modalities on how the deductions would be reduced to 20 percent.

However, the union in the statement, stated that the ultimatum given to the Minister of Aviation on the same has expired since the end of August 2024.

They directed that all state councils, women commissions/committees, youth Councils, and Branches of our Unions nationwide fully mobilize and ensure full compliance and success of the peaceful protests.

“Further actions shall be decided and communicated in the events of the protest failing to achieve a desired result.”
