AXA Mansard, Airtel offer new health insurance bundle
To bridge the healthcare insurance deficit in Nigeria, AXA Mansard and Airtel Nigeria have unveiled a new offering called Digital Health Data Bundle, an innovative product that offers customers access to affordable healthcare.
Airtel customers who have data-enabled phones can dial x141x44# to subscribe to the various health bundles. It has three segments to which customers can subscribe: N700 for 1GB of data and seven days of medical insurance, N1,700 for 2GB of data and 30 days of medical insurance as well as N3,500 for 10GB and 30 days of medical insurance.
According to reports, over 90 per cent of the Nigerian population lacks any form of health insurance, a situation the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) has tried to tackle over the years.
Nigeria ranks the third country with the highest out-of-pocket health spending. About 76.6 per cent of health spending in the country is out-of-pocket.
The digital health data bundle has been described as the first of its kind in addressing the challenge. The product is strategically created to afford Nigerians high-speed Internet data plan, affordable healthcare benefits and insurance.
Chief Executive Officer of AXA Mansard Health Limited, Tope Adeniyi, commended Airtel Nigeria for the strategic partnership that would ensure that everyone, including those at the bottom of the economic pyramid with data-enabled smartphones, can benefit from affordable healthcare.
Airtel and AXA Mansard have so far onboarded over 2000 pharmacies and collaborated with specific hospitals that will provide basic health services to subscribers.
Speaking at the launch, Deputy Chief Digital Innovation Officer, AXA Mansard, Alfred Egbai, said customers could subscribe by purchasing data via a unique code (×141×44#)
