MTN calls on MDAs, firms to embrace digital ads for economic growth
MTN Nigeria has called on Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) of government to leverage the enormous opportunities in digital advertising and the numerous possibilities it creates to connect with citizens and advance economic growth and development.
Meanwhile, smartphone penetration in Nigeria currently stands at about 44.4%, representing 81.2 million Nigerians who own smartphones.
MTN Chief Digital Officer, Aisha Mumuni, who disclosed this at a meeting with MDAs and non-profit organisations yesterday in Abuja, noted that mobile smartphones are the most useful tools in this 21st century and are now a ubiquitous part of life.
She stated that smartphones are becoming part of almost every type of modern communication and provide unprecedented opportunities for the public and private sectors to deliver timely, relevant information directly into the hands of consumers.
Mumuni said that with the widespread use of smartphones, the opportunity to engage with people where they are most receptive has never been greater.
Highlighting the need for government agencies to adopt mobile advertising, Mumuni observed that it will allow them to meet people in the spaces they are already occupying.
She said it was an unprecedented opportunity for the public and private sectors to deliver timely, relevant information directly into the hands of consumers and the people as they use that space.
“Mobile advertising is not just an opportunity, it is a responsibility for the telcos, public, and private sectors to ensure that public service information is accessible, timely, and meaningful,” she said.
Earlier, the Senior Manager of Digital Advertising and Campaigns at MTN, Eyitayo Amushan, said there was a way to communicate directly with people through their mobile phones, which is simply what mobile ads are all about.

“In the middle of having all these people gather on different platforms, there are ways we can communicate with them directly through their mobile phones, which is simply what mobile ads are all about,” he said.
“We have built those tech platforms, we have looked at the performance, and we are also looking at the trend of the industry to see how we compete with other forms of advertisement channels.
“Which is why we said it was important for us to also engage the public sector and the public as well.
“The power of being able to communicate with people, whether it is for a promotion, to sell your products and services, or to create awareness around your products out there in the media space, is beginning to rise,” he said.
Also speaking, Chief Enterprise Business Officer (CEBO) Lynda Saint-Nwafor said that MTN believes that everyone deserves the benefit of a modern connected world.
She stated that businesses, ministries, departments, and agencies can all leverage technology as a force for good to improve productivity, drive efficiencies, and accelerate growth.
Saint-Nwafor noted that MTN is engaging with critical stakeholders to identify the shackles in their operations and the challenges they face on a daily basis to find ways technology can be used to remove those obstacles.
He said: “We are here to showcase ways that we have created technology that will aid your engagement and interactions with not just citizens but also the people that you interact with on a daily basis, and we are here to tell you that we can put this technology in your hand. This technology will help you tap into new grounds and, of course, define and conquer new territories.”
