The logistics fragment of the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), especially the lack of pipelines, has been blamed for the high cost of the product in the country.

This comes as Cleanergy Innovation Ltd (CIL) asks Nigeria to transition to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG).

Speaking in Abuja, the Executive Vice Chairman of CIL, Shettima Imam, stressed that Nigeria’s refining capabilities are limited, saying the country largely imports PMS despite having abundant gas with less than three per cent domestic use.

“So CNG coming in will bring a cheaper, cleaner alternative to PMS which will bring down the cost and create more job opportunities and so many other advantages for Nigeria and Nigerian populace,” he said.

He noted that CIL, a company providing turnkey tailor-made Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) solutions for the autogas and power generation segments in Nigeria, alongside the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC), would invest heavily in gas infrastructure.

While his organisation has already launched six CNG filling stations in Abuja, Imam, said the milestone represented a significant step forward in Nigeria’s journey towards affordable, sustainable, locally sourced and environmentally friendly fuel solutions.

Stressing the need to diversify energy offerings and promote President Bola Tinubu’s CNG initiative, Imam said the new facilities were designed to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient service to all customers in line with global best practices.

“It is incremental, we have done six and we are supposed to do some in Lagos. We have invested our resources into this,” Imam added.
