SecureID advocates home-grown solutions for identity management

Founder and Group Chief Executive Officer of SecureID, Mrs. Kofo Akinkugbe, has stressed the importance of local solutions in tackling Nigeria’s identity management hurdles.

This was disclosed during the visit of the Director-General of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Abisoye Coker-Odusote visit to SecureID’s manufacturing facility in Lagos.

Akinkugbe noted that identity management is an essential social infrastructure across the world, adding that home-grown solutions are the most effective ways to overcome the unique challenges the country is facing.

The group CEO reiterated that through strategic Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs), both the government and the private sector can unlock new opportunities for growth and success in this crucial industry.

She said: “The visit highlighted SecureID’s pivotal role in Nigeria’s identity management landscape and underscored the importance of locally developed solutions in advancing the country’s growing digital economy.

“As a key player in the identity solutions ecosystem, SecureID is committed to addressing Nigeria’s unique identity management challenges by providing secure, home-grown solutions that are critical to the nation’s economic and technological advancement.

“The visit marked a pivotal move in enhancing public-private sector collaboration to drive national development. Our commitment to quality, innovation, and local content aligns perfectly with Nigeria’s goals for technological advancement and economic diversification.”

On her part, Coker-Odusote, an engineer, noted the benefits that robust identity management systems bring to the economy. She also identified key accomplishments of the Commission including enhanced security, increased financial inclusion, and improved efficiency in public service and healthcare delivery, while stressing the role of PPPs in accelerating the realisation of these benefits.
