Consistency, teamwork needed to succeed as a hype man – Emmyblaq

This is exactly what Ikechukwu Emmanuel Chima better known as Emmyblaq does. He is one of the hype men making waves in Nigeria at the moment. Popular for songs like ‘Ballers alert’, ‘Kick poverty’, ‘Wife material amongst others, the energetic hype man never fails to get the crowd going, whether it’s saying different things on the mic, dancing, or reciting his own signature phrases.

Asked what it takes to succeed as a hype man, he said: “It doesn’t take much to succeed as a hype man. One has to be consistent in the game, be psychologically sound in order to know what suits the audience .Team work and collaboration with the DJ is also a key factor”.

Emmyblaq who has worked with the likes of Teni, Dj Kaywise, and a host of others, noted that being a hype man is beyond the financial earnings. The graduate of Federal Polytechnic Auchi said hyping is life to him.

“I will speak for myself. Hyping is life to me.I derive fulfilment from it It is something I am passionate about. I derive pleasure doing it. Financial earnings only compliment what we do. The real joy comes from the fact that people recognize and accept my craft”.

Shedding light on the importance of hype men to the entertainment eco system, he said: “The awareness about the hype industry isn’t as strong as it ought to be. Brands should know they basically need the services of hype men to grow their platform and business”.
