Court grants bail to suspected killer of Kwara monarch

The Kwara State High Court has released Olowofela Oyebanji, a septuagenarian and one of the suspected killers of Onikoro of Koro, Peter Aremu, on bail. He was admitted to bail on health conditions.

Oyebanji was the second defendant among others arraigned before Magistrate Monisola Kamson for the alleged culpable homicide and kidnapping. Oyebanji’s counsel told the magistrate at the resumed hearing of the case yesterday that his client’s application for bail at the High Court has been granted.

According to him, Oyebanji could not physically appear in court because he was on admission at a hospital in Lagos. He, however, promised to ensure his presence at the next adjourned date while Magistrate Kamson adjourned till August 9, for further hearing.

Meanwhile, the prosecutor, Abdullah Sanni, has applied to substitute the police report to add another suspect, Saliu Murtala, who had just been arrested. This brings the total number of suspects to 14.
