Edo govt condoles families of victims killed by falling tree

Edo Government has commiserated with families of victims of the incident at Jattu Market, Etsako West Local Government Area of the state.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that four people were killed when a tree fell on traders at Jattu market on Monday morning due to a heavy downpour.

Chris Nehikhare, State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, in a statement on Tuesday, described the incident as unfortunate and deeply saddening.

“Government received with a heavy heart the news of the unfortunate incident that occurred on Monday morning in Jattu, Etsako West local government area of the state.

“No fewer than four lives were allegedly lost due to fallen trees caused by a heavy downpour.

“The incident is deeply saddening and the Deputy Governor, Omobayo Godwins, was in Jattu to commiserate with the victims and families affected by the very tragic incident.

“Emergency response teams have since been deployed to manage the situation and provide support and assistance to those affected.

“Urgent steps are immediately being taken to ensure such tragedies are prevented in the future as we remain committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all citizens,” Nehikhare said.

He prayed God to grant repose to the souls of the departed and succour to their families.
