Bauchi govt, W’Bank to establish livestock programme
The Bauchi State Government, in collaboration with the World Bank, has come up with a project to establish a ‘Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project’ aimed at improving productivity and enhancing animal husbandry in the state.
Governor Bala Mohammed made this known in a statement when he inaugurated the 2025 Livestock Vaccination Campaign in Itas-Gadau Local Government Area of the state.
The project, according to the governor, would include plans for slaughterhouses, veterinary clinics, animal laboratories, and an agricultural school.
Bala stated that the project offers training for about 100 veterinary and herdsmen health officers on disease control.
According to Governor Bala, N809.9 million has been set aside for the 2025 annual livestock vaccination, with N40 million already released to fight animal diseases.
He said, “For this round of the vaccination campaign, a total of 1 million herds of cattle, 500 sheep and goats, as well as 500
poultry, are targeted to be vaccinated across the state.
“The government will also provide additional vaccines if the need arises and will continue to work tirelessly toward a healthy livestock population in Bauchi State.”
