Buckle up: Donald Trump returns to the White House next week for a second term that promises to be even more volatile — and hard-line — than his roller-coaster first presidency. Buoyed by his historic political comeback, the billionaire Republican has shown no sign of changing the bombastic style that shook the United States and the world from 2017 to 2021. U.S President-elect Donald Trump has said Israel and Hamas have agreed to release the October 7 hostages.

The hostages have been trapped in Gaza after Hamas fighters stormed Israel and plucked them from their homes.

The surprise attack saw Hamas killing over 1,200 people – mostly civilians – and abducting 250 others.

The attack which happened on October 7 led to a brutal war that is still raging.

Israel’s retaliatory offensive has since killed more than 46,000 Palestinians, with over half the casualties reported to be women and children, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry.

However, reports say a ceasefire deal is being brokered by the U.S, Egypt and Qatar.

Trump has revealed that progress is being made in that regard and that handshakes have been witnessed.

He said: “We have a deal for the hostages in the Middle East. They will be released shortly. Thank you.”

Israel is yet to confirm if a ceasefire deal has been achieved.
